EXETER SUMMER

Wednesdays: July 15th-August 12th (5 CLASS)

South Huron Recreation Center

Level 4:

A supportive, step-by-step course for students who need to strengthen foundational reading skills. We focus on:

  • ✅ Decoding Accuracy

  • ✅ Confidence

  • ✅ Fluent reading

…by explicitly teaching how sounds map to letters and patterns, while also building strong writing habits and applying new skills in connected reading.

📝 What students learn

LEVEL 4: Advanced Literacy Foundations

A supportive, small-group course designed for students ready to master complex phonetic patterns and bridge the gap to fluent, confident reading. We go beyond the basics to tackle the "tricky" parts of English through explicit, multi-sensory instruction.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

  • Advanced Phonics Patterns Mastering the "vowel teams" (ee, oa, ai, etc.), the "Bossy R" (r-controlled vowels), and the magic of Silent E to unlock long vowel sounds.

  • Digraph & Blend Review A quick, deep-dive refinement of sh, ch, th, wh, and ph, along with complex beginning and final blends (e.g., str, mpl).

  • Multisyllabic Decoding Breaking down "big words" into manageable chunks. Students learn syllable division rules to stop guessing and start decoding with precision.

  • Making Words & Writing Integration Hands-on "Making Words" lessons where students manipulate letters to build patterns, followed by dictation and sentence writing to reinforce encoding skills.

  • Connected Reading & Fluency Applying new patterns immediately to targeted decodable passages to build reading bridge-strength, comprehension, and phrasing.

THE TAKE-HOME EXPERIENCE

Learning doesn't stop in the classroom! Every student receives a comprehensive take-home workbook featuring:

  • Weekly decodable passages matched to our current focus.

  • Interactive writing activities and word-building prompts.

  • Additional practice to solidify skills and build at-home confidence.

OUR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

We believe reading should be an active experience. Our sessions are hands-on and multi-sensory, utilizing movement, touch, and sound to engage all types of learners. Students work alongside peers in an inclusive, age-appropriate setting where taking risks is encouraged
